We are situated on a single width country lane with few passing places.
because of this we have staggered arrival & departure times so that we don’t
have passing of vehicles to & from the site at the same time.
Arrival time after 1.30pm, departure before 11 am if in Pods & Tents or 12 noon
for Caravans, and Motorhomes, unless otherwise agreed.

Directions by Road

Please note for all towed vehicles. Do not use Sat Nav for this destination,

Access via A31 onto Bighton Hill only, all other roads are unsuitable for

Directions from A34 heading towards Winchester

At the end of the A34 (junction 9 of M3) take 2nd exit from roundabout onto A272 Spitfire Link (signposted A31 Alton). Stay on A31 (signposted Alton & Ropley)

** As you enter Ropley, you will pass a petrol station on your right, from here take the 3rd turning left at the crossroads, (signposted Bighton) this is Bighton Hill & leads directly into Sutton Wood Lane.

You will go up a hill, over a small railway bridge, pass a few houses and bungalows on the left, then the road narrows with a sharp blind right hand then left hand bend, you are now in Sutton Wood Lane. You pass a drive on your left, this is called “The Ramblers” (although there is no sign) our site is the next drive on the left side with double wooden 5 bar gates and campsite signs, it’s just before “Cartrel” bungalow and the next right hand bend.

Please don’t turn in until you see campsite signs. Our neighbours won’t appreciate a visit, however short !

Directions from M3 travelling from the South towards the North

Exit at junction 10 at roundabout, take 3rd exit onto A31 (St Catherine’s Way) signposted Alton Alresford, at roundabout take 2nd exit, at next roundabout take 2nd exit (Petersfield Road) stay on A31 signposted to Alton & Ropley, follow from ** above.

Directions from M3 travelling from the North towards the South

Exit at junction 9 take 1st exit from roundabout onto A272 Spitfire Link (signposted A31 Alton). Stay on A31 (signposted Alton & Ropley) follow from ** above.

Directions from A3 (This can be a little steep and windy for some, but shorter and prettier.)

Exit A3 at Petersfield services take Winchester Road towards Petersfield, at roundabout take 1st exit onto Bell Hill. Follow for approx 5 ½ miles (it is very windy). At T junction TR onto A32 then immediately TL onto the Petersfield Road, follow for approx 4 miles. At T junction TR onto A31 The Dean. (This is a sharp turning, to avoid this you can TL at this Junction to the roundabout, take the 4th exit and come back on yourself) from here follow ** above in the road directions.

Public Transport Directions

Main line train into Alton. From here you can catch the steam train to Ropley station (if running, as has a limited timetable) or a bus X64 to The Dean Ropley on the A31. From Ropley station walk down to the main road A31, this is where the bus X64 stops.

* You are now in The Dean, Ropley, Hampshire. (We are approx just over 1 mile walk from here, ½ uphill on a country lane with no footpaths, or road lighting). With your back towards the shop TL, TL at the crossroads into Bighton Hill (Signposted Bighton), go up the hill over the Watercress Steam Railway line bridge, there is a sharp blind R then L bend. You are now in Sutton Wood Lane. You pass a drive on your LH side, this is called “The Ramblers” (although there is no sign) our site is the next drive on the LH side with double wooden 5 bar gates, and campsite signs, it’s just before “Cartrel” bungalow and the next LH bend. Please don’t turn in until you see campsite signs. Our neighbours won’t appreciate a visit, however short !

Main line train to Winchester, bus from Winchester to Ropley (64 or X64) follow from * above

Bus from Alton (64 or X64) to Ropley Dean and follow directions from * above.

Bus from Winchester (67) to Alresford, change buses at Alresford catch the (64 or X64) to Ropley Dean and follow directions from * above.

Bus from Petersfeld (67) to Alresford change buses at Alresford, catch the (64 or X64) to Ropley Dean and follow directions from * above.

Bus from Guildford (X65) to Alton then (X64) to Ropley Dean and follow directions from * above.

Bus from Basingstoke (86) to Winchester, then bus (X64) to Ropley Dean and follow directions from * above
